Quick Glance: Sony’s Ultrabook Slider Prototype

Much similar to Toshiba’s M930, Sony displayed a prototype of a slider tablet laptop. The primary difference between the two was that the Sony included a full sized pen, and was nearly half as thick. Specs aren’t yet available, as the machine won’t be on the market for some time.

Unlike the previous generation with a swivel hinge, Toshiba’s new Tablet PC uses a sliding hinge that closes the computer with the screen out. They have removed the touch capabilities from the previous generation.

This design has a number of fatal flaws. The Wacom digitizer pen is smaller than a standard pen. Because it closes with the screen out, it’s going to be prone to serious scratches on the screen. There is also no touchpad. The touchpad has instead been replaced by a TrackPoint-style device with vertical mouse buttons.

Quick Glance: iMPROV Electronics’s Boogie Board LCD Writing Tablet

iMPROV Electronics’s Boogie Board LCD Writing Tablet is a fantastic alternative to all of the Windows and Android based slates. The tablet, which uses an E-Ink screen, is incredibly slick and easy to write on. There are two variations of the device: A single-use device that acts as a whiteboard, and a version that connects with a computer over USB. The USB version allows for saving of up to 200 pages in PDF vector format, as well as live drawing to a computer monitor.
