Quick Glance: Harman/Kardon's GLA-55 Crystal Blue...
These Harman/Kardon speakers sound almost as amazing as they look. The tough plastic has a fantastic appearance and is gorgeously eliminated by the set of LEDs.

Quick Glance: Sony's Ultrabook Slider Prototype
Much similar to Toshiba’s M930, Sony displayed a prototype of a slider tablet laptop. The primary difference between the two was that the Sony included a full sized pen, and was nearly half as thick. Specs aren’t yet available, as the machine won’t be on the market for some time.

Quick Glance: Toshiba Portege M930
Unlike the previous generation with a swivel hinge, Toshiba’s new Tablet PC uses a sliding hinge that closes the computer with the screen out. They have removed the touch capabilities from the previous generation. This design has a number of fatal flaws. The Wacom digitizer pen is smaller than a standard pen. Because it closes with the screen out, it’s going to be prone to...

Quick Glance: iMPROV Electronics's Boogie Board...
iMPROV Electronics’s Boogie Board LCD Writing Tablet is a fantastic alternative to all of the Windows and Android based slates. The tablet, which uses an E-Ink screen, is incredibly slick and easy to write on. There are two variations of the device: A single-use device that acts as a whiteboard, and a version that connects with a computer over USB. The USB version allows for saving of...

Quick Glance: Belkin's Thunderbolt Dock
Belkin showed off a prototype of an upcoming Thunderbolt port extending dock Sunday at CES Unveiled. The prototype dock split a single thunderbolt connection into Eithernet, audio out, Firewire, HDMI, and 3 USB ports. The tentative retail price of the hub is $299, a price that might be slightly off-putting to many consumers.

Intel's Ultrabook
The above picture encapsulates the entire Intel booth. During their press conference on Monday, Intel discussed how the push of their Ultrabooks was going to be the biggest push they had done since the release of the Centrino. I’m quickly becoming a believer. These machines are fast, slick, and, shockingly, fairly stylish. I’ve never been one to judge a laptop simply by its...

Quick Glance: Aiptek's PocketCinema V100
Aiptek’s PocketCinema V100 has managed to do what no other pico projector of its size has done: look good. The pico projector was thrown only about a foot, but was extremely bright with vivid colors thanks to the DLP technology used. The projector is designed to connect to a laptop and is expected to retail around $129.

Quick Glance: Steel Space's Wrap-Around Chair
Steel Space was showing off their wrap-around, ergonomic chair desk at CES. The chair, which can house up to six monitors, wraps around the user sitting inside to provide a comfortable, immersive experience. Speakers mounted behind the headrest provide fantastic sound, while the adjustable chair makes sitting for extended periods very comfortable. The only downfall comes with the price of...

CES 2012: Improving Life For Those with Dementia
CES is not all about cool new televisions, laptops, and smart phones.  One of the more fascinating sections of CES deals with Robotics.  Last year, I discovered a company which is using robotics to address a serious healthcare problem: Agitation and anxiety in the elderly who suffer from dementia. When faced with an agitated patient with dementia, the options for management are terrible.  Step...

Quick Glance: Kodak's PS810 Professional Photo...
“So what has Kodak done lately?” seemed to be a recurring question at this year’s CES pre-show. One of the most impressive pieces of innovation provided by the company is their PS810 scanner. This scanner, blazing through documents at an insane 64 pages-per-minute, allows for users to scan high resolution versions of their treasured photos into their PC. These pictures need...

Quick Glance: iRig Mix Portable Mixer
iRig Mix’s portable mixer allows for the connection of two input devices, an RCA out, and a set of headphones for the DJ on the go. It worked quite well in the basic testing I did with two iPods. It even goes as far as to include a three channel aux input, allowing for the microphone line to pass data back-and-forth between devices that support automatic queueing, such as certain apps on...

The Ballmer Keynote: A Windows Phone Error
Many weeks ago, I finished an animation that beat up unfairly on Steve Ballmer and Windows Phone. Much to my amazement, at the CES keynote, a Windows Phone problem appeared very visibly on stage. Product Manager Derek Snyder did a voice to text demonstration for Windows Phone. He voiced: “Sounds great.” After an awkward pause, the phone printed out “Sounds.” A nervous laughter rippled through...

CES Unveiled
CES Unveiled was Sunday evening.  It is an amazingly crowded event with an open bar, lots of food, and loud noise.  It is difficult to accomplish much.  Companies pay a premium for this extra event.  There are lots of products to see and all are detailed by the representatives as innovative breakthroughs. Lenovo had three interesting laptops on display.  It was extremely difficult to see much due...

CES has trouble with that "technology thing."
You would kind of expect the premiere TECHNOLOGY conference to demonstrate a little bit of experience with the technical stuff.  The first press presentation at CES was “2012 CES: Trends to Watch.”  CES presenters could not get the laptop to show its slides on the projector.  Once they finally got it going, they had to show the presentation while in the PowerPoint like program, complete with...

Quick Glance: ION Audio's Hardware Lineup
Over the past couple months, ION Audio has pushed a number of novelty attachments for iOS devices. Their classic arcade-style controller for the iPad made waves in the retro gaming community upon release in mid-2011. A number of other products have come out with the same goal. Pictured above is an iPad guitar plugin. A pocket sized, PSP-style controller is soon to be available as well. A...

Quick Glance: Behringer's iSCREAM Studio in a...
Behringer’s upcoming iSCREAM microphone has been dubbed “a studio in a microphone”. This microphone, listed at $100, offers the ability to record both vocals and an instrument… on an iPad. And only an iPad. The microphone provides a headphone out which, surely, could be manipulated with definite fidelity loss to run in to a PC, but there is no natively provided way to...

3D is Still a Flop!
I can handle the occasional 3D movie at the theaters, though I would rather see it in 2D.  The gimmick just isn’t as cool as it used to be. There is no way I could routinely watch 3D television in my home.  We cannot keep track of all of our remote controls.  How in the heck are we going to keep track of expensive 3D glasses? At 2010 CES, 3D television was huge.  Everyone had 3D something as a...

What is CES?
CES is the Consumer Electronics Show.  It is the place where innovations from all over the world in the field of consumer electronics are gathered and promoted.  It is not a gigantic version of BestBuy.  It is a place where companies like BestBuy come to see what is new.  Nothing, theoretically, is for sale here.  These are products that are supposed to appear over the coming year. Many have been...
